‘So, we started off, out of Omalo and into the wild scenery of the Caucasus. At first, we followed a small path that wound in gentle curves through the forest. The mood was good and we enjoyed the sunbeams that fell here and there through the treetops. We followed Giorgi, who rode ahead on his horse, while our lack of authority allowed our horses to indulge in the pleasure of one or other snacks along the way. After two hours, we finally approached Shenako. Our stopover was a tranquil little village on a hillside, topped by a small church. Giorgi’s aunt, who lives here, invited us in, and we were served a delicious tea made with local herbs’.
