Islands are special territories. We have been to a few islands and always return home with the feeling that they are each alluring in their own special way. The only trouble with islands is that it is so damned difficult to ride the motorcycle all the way there! This time, and because our Poderosa is still ‘locked down’ in Laos, we did not have our own transport. We relied on public transport, rented cars or used our good ol’ feet. The Azores are well aware of the many natural beauties that are to be found in the archipelago. For that reason visitors are invited to stop every now and then to enjoy the views from the many miradouros (lookouts) spread through the islands; all in the most incredible locations. Azoreans have the gift of taking care of public spaces as if they were their own property. ‘If we don’t take care of what is ours, who will?’
