Julia is a young mother of two girls, Bea and Lucy. She abandons London with her kids out of disenchantment of a cheating husband and a conservative society. She heads to Morocco where she leads a hippie life with the little money that her husband, a writer, occasionally sends. Based on Esther Freud’s homonymous novel, the film shows the conflict between a child that insists on having a normal life without any more adventures which usually leave them empty stomached, and a mother who naively keeps searching for a pure life through a simple, hippie way of living and Sufism.
