Life is like riding a Unicycle

PT-diariesof-Unicycling

It all started with my friend Zé Tó and with a young fellow, his son João. Seeing him enjoy riding the unicycle sparked my curiosity. That day my friend Zé Tó lent me his unicycle and told me: “Give it a try and bring it back only when you can ride it.” So that’s what I did. Whenever I needed a break from the computer, I rode the unicycle, or should I say, I tried it…

Learning how to ride a unicycle means: practicing, practicing, practicing! And failing, failing, failing! But, just as Albert Einstein said:

Life is like riding a bicycle. In order to keep your balance, you must keep moving.

So I kept moving. And finally after many attempts, and one week after I had first started (practicing  more or less 30 minutes per day), I managed to keep my balance and I finally managed to move forward. It was exhilarating and a lot of fun.

I found out that unicycling is indeed a great metaphor for life. In life you also need to get out of your comfort zone,  you need to fail, and fail again. You also need to adjust and try different positions, but most important of all, you need to keep moving in order to keep your balance.

Thank you Zé Tó for the friendship. And thank you João for being an inspiration.

Let me know in the comments if you agree with this metaphor. If you like it, please share this with your friends so that they too can benefit from this lesson.
